Bedford Park, Stephanie Ahn's Sundance-winning debut, will open in theaters on March 5, 2027. Sony Pictures Classics announced the release date, along with an awards-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles in December 2026, according to POC Culture. For a Korean American filmmaker's first feature, that is a full theatrical release backed by a distributor with worldwide rights.

What is Bedford Park about?

The film follows Audrey, a woman raised in New Jersey who is torn between loyalty to her Korean immigrant family and her American identity. After her mother's car accident, she meets Eli, an ex-wrestler with his own fractured past. TheWrap's account of the official logline describes an unexpected relationship that balances self-preservation, cultural pressure and chosen love.

The cast includes Moon Choi, Son Sukku, Won Mi Kyung, Kim Eung Soo and Jefferson White. Son Sukku is also credited as a producer through Stannum, alongside Gary Foster, Chris S. Lee, Nina Yang Bongiovi and Theresa Kang. Russ Krasnoff is also credited as a producer.

How did Bedford Park get here?

The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Debut Feature. Ahn wrote and directed it. On January 30, TheWrap reported that Sony Pictures Classics had acquired worldwide rights, its second acquisition from that year's festival. The deal was negotiated with CAA Media Finance, in conjunction with Cornerstone Films, on behalf of the filmmakers.

The film was also selected for the Busan International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, and it screened in Los Angeles at AFI FEST on October 22.

The studio did not hold back in its statement at the time of the acquisition. "Debut director Stephanie Ahn has made a riveting drama exuding the confidence of a master," Sony Pictures Classics said, adding that the film is "relatable and will resonate everywhere." The filmmakers called the distributor "the gold standard for thoughtful, filmmaker-driven distribution."

Why does this release matter?

A debut about a Korean immigrant family in New Jersey is getting a full theatrical release. That is worth noting for anyone who works in casting, financing or distribution. TheWrap reported that Ahn found Moon Choi, a well-known local actress in Korea, six years earlier, and that they rehearsed for months over Zoom. Ahn told TheWrap, "I wanted a killer actress."

The reporting does not include box office projections or a theater count, and 88tumble will not guess at them.

What to watch next

The December awards-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles comes first, followed by the theatrical release on March 5. Anyone tracking Asian American film should watch how the film is positioned for awards season and how it performs once it opens.
