A new Medicare Advantage plan for Asian American seniors is coming to Los Angeles and Orange counties, and it is built around a question insurers rarely put at the center of a product: will the member feel understood? Alignment Health Plan announced the Central Health Harmony HMO on October 12, 2026. It becomes available January 1, 2027, with Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period running October 15 through December 7.

The details below come from Alignment Health's own press release, issued through GlobeNewswire. This is a company announcement about a commercial product, not independent reporting, and 88tumble has not independently verified its figures.

What is Central Health Harmony?

Central Health Harmony is a Medicare Advantage HMO from Alignment Health, designed around in-language care and culturally familiar benefits. It is open to all Medicare-eligible beneficiaries who live in the service area and choose the plan, according to the company. Its centerpiece is a network of more than 600 primary care physicians who speak Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese and practice in members' neighborhoods.

That network includes providers affiliated with Astrana Health, which Alignment describes as a value-based care organization with deep Southern California roots and decades of experience serving multilingual Asian American communities. In Orange County, members also get in-network access to Hoag, a nonprofit health system that U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks as a best hospital, per the release.

How big is the Asian American senior population in Los Angeles and Orange counties?

Alignment cites CMS data as of September 2026 showing more than 2.3 million Medicare-eligible seniors across the two counties, nearly 18 percent of them Asian American. The company says that makes the region home to two of the largest and most concentrated Asian American senior populations in the country, and that many of those seniors still face language and cultural barriers in the healthcare system. Those figures are the insurer's characterization of the data and have not been checked against CMS by 88tumble.

Dawn Maroney, president of Alignment Health and CEO of Alignment Health Plan, framed the plan around that gap. Many seniors, she said, start healthcare with the question "Will I feel understood?" The plan was built around that need, she said, by connecting members with providers who understand their language, culture and communities. Healthcare works best, she added, when it is personal, accessible and rooted in trust.

What benefits does the plan offer?

Beyond the physician network, the release lists several features aimed at Asian American members:

  • In-language support. In-house language specialists at Alignment Health Plan assist members in Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese, and key plan documents and member materials are available in those languages.
  • Traditional therapies. Enhanced acupuncture coverage that includes cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, tui na and reflexology.
  • A culturally tailored OTC benefit. An enhanced over-the-counter benefit, delivered through Alignment's ACCESS On-Demand Concierge Card, covers traditional Asian health and wellness products alongside standard OTC items.
  • Grocery allowance benefits. Usable at participating Asian American supermarkets and specialty grocers, including H Mart, TS Emporium, Hannam Chain and Good Fortune Supermarket.

The grocery benefit carries a catch worth reading closely. A footnote in the release says special supplemental benefits for the chronically ill require a qualifying chronic condition, such as congestive heart failure, dementia, diabetes or stroke, that other conditions may apply, and that medical records establish eligibility. Not all members qualify. Terms and availability also apply.

What should families weigh before enrolling?

Language access and cultural familiarity are real needs for older immigrants navigating a complicated system, and a plan that names them outright is notable. But this is an insurer's product, not a community-based care model or a nonprofit service, and the release is a marketing document. Families should confirm the physician network, whether their own doctors are in network, and who qualifies for each benefit directly with Alignment before enrolling.

The release notes that Central Health Harmony is one of several new plans in Alignment Health's 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup. Alignment says details are available at alignmenthealthplan.com or by phone at 1-888-979-2247 (TTY: 711), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
