P-pop is coming to Texas. SB19, the Filipino group that has become the face of Philippine pop music, is scheduled to represent P-pop at the KPOPWORLD Festival 2026 in San Antonio on October 31, according to OtakuKart. It caps a big American month for the group, whose concert film SB19 Wakas at Simula: The Trilogy Concert Finale screened in more than 200 theaters across North America on October 8 and 11.
Who is SB19?
SB19 is a five-member Filipino group known for powerful vocals, tightly synchronized choreography and a sound that blends contemporary pop with hip-hop and EDM. The group has broken a string of barriers for Philippine music. It was the first Southeast Asian act nominated for Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards in 2021, and in 2026 it became the first Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza, according to OtakuKart.
The group is often compared to K-pop acts, and the comparison is not accidental. SB19 trained under a Korean-style system and draws on K-pop's performance standards. But its music and lyrics are distinctly Filipino, and its rise has helped define P-pop as a genre in its own right.
The concert film
Wakas at Simula, which means end and beginning, documents the group's April 18, 2026 performance at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque City, the finale of a concert trilogy. Directed by Paolo Valenciano and co-produced by 1Z Entertainment and Live Nation Philippines, it was released in North America by Iconic Events Releasing with CJ 4DPLEX, including select SCREENX and 4DX screenings, according to OtakuKart.
"SB19 has built an incredibly passionate global fanbase," Steven Menkin, president of Iconic Events Releasing, said.
Why the Filipino American audience matters
A theatrical release across more than 200 North American screens is a bet on the diaspora. Filipino Americans are one of the largest Asian American groups in the country, and P-pop fandom here is concentrated in the same places Filipino families are: California, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, New Jersey and beyond. For many second-generation fans, SB19 is the first Filipino pop act they have been able to follow the way their friends follow K-pop groups.
That is part of what makes the San Antonio booking interesting. A K-pop festival making room for a P-pop act signals that the audience for Asian pop music in the United States is wider than one country's industry. Fans who arrive for K-pop leave knowing a Filipino group, and Filipino American fans see their own music on the same stage.
P-pop and Filipino American History Month
The festival date lands on the last day of Filipino American History Month. That timing is a nice coincidence. For decades, Filipino American musicians succeeded in the United States without being recognized as Filipino, from session players to pop stars whose heritage audiences never knew. P-pop's rise offers something different: Filipino music marketed as Filipino, in Filipino, to a global audience.
What comes next for SB19
The group's year has been a run of firsts, and the U.S. market is clearly part of the plan. A concert film in American theaters, a Lollapalooza set and a Texas festival appearance all point toward a bigger North American tour in the future. If that happens, Filipino American fans will have had a lot to do with making it possible.
